Do you remember Dr. Ellen Ochoa?
She is the first Latina astronaut and director of the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. The San Diego University graduate received her Bachelor of Science in Physics. Dr. Ochoa later went on to earn her doctorate from Stanford University in Electrical Engineering.Dr. Ochoa's mother raised five children by herself and instilled in them the love of learning.
Dr. Ochoa's motto: "Only you put limitations on yourself about what you can achieve...I believe a good education can take you anywhere on earth and beyond."
To her credit, in 1993, Dr. Ochoa is the first Hispanic female to serve on a nine-day mission aboard the space shuttle Discovery. She has logged close to 1000 hours in orbit through her four times in space.
Before her career as a astronaut, Dr. Ochoa "was a research engineer and inventor with three patents for optical systems" (2015, Johnson Space Center).

Ella es la primera astronauta y directora del Centro Espacio, Lyndon B. Johnson. La graduada de la Universidad de San Diego recibió su Bachiller de Cencia en física. Después, ganó su doctorado de la Universidad Stanford en Ingenieria Eléctrica.
La madre de Dra. Ochoa se criaba a sus niños sola y inculcado en ellos el amor de educación. Dra. Ochoa dice, "Sólo usted ponga las limitaciones a sí mismo acerca lo que puede lograr...Yo creo una educación buena puede llevarse a cualquier lugar en la tierra y más allá."
A su credito, en 1993, Dra. Ochoa era la primera mujer a servir en una misión de nueve días a bordo la transbordador espacial, Discovery. Ella ha conectado casi 1000 horas en órbita a través de sus cuatro veces en espacio.
Antes de su carrera de astronauta, Dra. Ochoa " era una ingeniera de investigación y creador con tres patentes para sistemas ópticos" (2015, Centro Espacio Johnson).
